Pasture and Rangeland Research
Mapping and assessing rangeland resources to improve holistic livestock nutrition and management
Research Overview
In response to the important role that pasture, and rangeland play in livestock and Agriculture development in Ghana, SavaNet is committed to conducting demand driven research on diverse thematic areas on pasture and rangeland in Ghana.
Our scientists are also interested in mapping transhumance routes and corridors in Ghana to enhance their research on nomadic livestock nutrition and management systems. These scientific mapping also include the mapping of grass/forage spices within transhumance routes and corridors to enhance research activities. Research results by our researchers are regularly published in various international journals.
Key Research Areas
Rangeland Mapping
Comprehensive mapping of rangeland locations across Ghana using GIS technology to identify grazing areas and their characteristics.
Nutrient Assessment
Detailed analysis of rangeland vegetation to determine nutrient content and quality for optimal livestock nutrition planning.
Feed Management
Developing holistic feed management strategies that integrate rangeland resources with supplementary feeding for improved livestock productivity.
International Publications
Research findings are shared in international journals to contribute to global knowledge on rangeland management and pastoral systems.
Research Objectives
Rangeland Resource Documentation
Create comprehensive maps and databases of rangeland resources across Ghana for informed decision-making and planning.
Nutrition Optimization
Assess nutrient quality of rangelands to develop optimal feeding strategies that complement natural grazing with supplements.
